North Cave Wetlands – 11/01/2018

An overcast day with some fine drizzle, light north-westerly breeze, temperatures around 6 degrees C. Good numbers of Redshank Tringa totanus were on Village Lake, along with the long staying Ruff Calidris pugnax. On Island Lake eight Snipe Gallinago gallinago dropped in, plus a Marsh Harrier Circus aeruginosus passed through heading south. Along the northern path a lone Curlew Numenius arquata was in the north field and a female Bullfinch Pyrrhula pyrrhula was in the hedge. Several Siskin Spinus spinus were along the west path, with two Lesser Redpoll Acanthis cabaret and single Redwing Turdus iliacus also present. The drake Mandarin Aix galericulata was again on Carp Lake. Finally both Stonechats Saxicola rubicola were on Dryham Ings, the female in Cell B and the male in Cell C.
