Dryham IngsDryham Ings

An afternoon visit with dull overcast conditions and a gentle easterly breeze, temperature around one degree C with plenty of snow still on the ground. Village Lake produced a Dunlin Calidris alpina, along with the long staying Ruff Calidris pugnax. From East Hide at least 12 Snipe Gallinago gallinago were counted, two of which were showing well on the bank in front of the hide. A Green Woodpecker Picus viridis was also feeding here just to the right of the hide. A Barn Owl Tyto alba was out and hunting at around 3:30pm over the Maize Field, settling for a few minutes on a fence post before heading off north. In the field opposite the entrance 12 Oystercatcher Haematopus ostralegus were feeding, along with several Lapwing Vanellus vanellus. The latter species was also seen on Dryham Ings Cell C, showing well near the gate opposite the feeders where a couple of Fieldfare Turdus pilaris were also noted.
