A sunny afternoon visit with a gentle westerly breeze, temperatures around ten degrees C. Finding invertebrates is still a challenge, so a new for year Peacock Aglais io was the highlight along the northern path, where a Small Tortoiseshell Aglais urticae was also present. Eighteen Common Toad Bufo bufo was a good count at the Dragonfly Ponds. Bird-wise, with the exception of Chiffchaff Phylloscopus collybita, I couldn’t find any other recent arrivals. Avocet Recurvirostra avosetta were noted on Cell A of Dryham Ings, with none were present on Village Lake. A couple of Curlew Numenius arquata were on the north bank of Village Lake, with the adult Mediterranean Gull Larus melanocephalus also briefly present, along with the Ruff Calidris pugnax which had relocated from Cell C. A Kingfisher Alcedo atthis was on Carp Lake.
