North Cave Wetlands – 06/05/2018

A short evening visit with sunny conditions, light south-easterly breeze and temperatures around 18 degrees C. Baccha elongata was new for the year along the western path. Orange-tip Anthocharis cardamines butterflies were showing well and settling in the north-west corner of the reserve, where a Large Red Damselfly Pyrrhosoma nymphula also dropped in for a portrait.

Following yesterdays visit the following birds were all added to the weekend list Chiffchaff Phylloscopus collybita, Cormorant Phalacrocorax carbo, Corn Bunting Emberiza calandra, House Sparrow Passer domesticus, Mandarin Duck Aix galericulata, Marsh Harrier Circus aeruginosus, Pochard Aythya ferina, Reed Bunting Emberiza schoeniclus and Yellow Wagtail Motacilla flava, the latter being new for the year.
