Forge Valley – 28/06/2018

Paid a brief afternoon visit to catch up with Beautiful Demoiselle Calopteryx virgo following a morning session at Flamborough Head. Before heading along the board walk I stopped off for lunch in the top car park, where Marsh Tit Poecile palustris and Nuthatch Sitta europaea were added to the year list. From the lower car park heading right along the boardwalk, it wasn’t long before I found Beautiful Demoiselle C.virgo in a sunny spot along the river. Several males and females were active along the waters edge, always nice to see this scarce Yorkshire species. Other bits and pieces of interest included several Rutpela maculata found on the umbellifers along the walk, along with Leucozona laternaria, a Hoverfly that I’ve not previously seen in Yorkshire, so a nice addition to the list. A pair of Grey Wagtail Motacilla cinerea were also showing well along the River.
