Paid a couple of brief visits to the Wetlands today in the hope of connecting with the Hobby Falco subbuteo which has been showing well for a couple of days. The morning visit resulted in three Bearded Tit Panurus biarmicusbeing found in the reedbed just below Turret Hide, a nice year tick for the reserve. The Black-tailed Godwit Limosa limosa was also again present here. The second visit of the day finally paid off, with the Hobby F. subbuteo showing well, returning to the dead trees on the west bank of Main Lake several times over a 45 minute period. The highlight was when the bird flew directly towards me, plucking a dragonfly out of the air only a few metres in front of me. What a cracking bird.
