Tophill Low – 24/01/2019

Arrived around 11:00am with mainly sunny conditions for the rest of the day, most of the marshes frozen over. A light westerly breeze blowing with temperatures reaching around three degress C.

A great visit to this Yorkshire Water Nature Reserve with two main highlights. The Red-necked Grebe Podiceps grisegena which had been present for several days was still residing on ‘O’ Reservoir, whilst a juvenile Glaucous Gull Larus hyperboreus was present late afternoon on ‘D’ Reservoir. Supporting cast included a Cetti’s Warbler Cettia cetti on North Marsh, with a Water Rail Rallus aquaticus putting in an apperance on South Marsh West.
