North Cave Wetlands – 12/03/2019

An overcast start to the afternoon, eventually brightening up. A moderate south-westerly breeze blowing, with temperature around five degrees C.

Starting out at Main Lake two Pink-footed Goose Anser brachyrhynchus were on the rear island of the Lake. On Cell A of Dryham Ings 24 Oystercatcher Haematopus ostralegus were present with a further two birds on the Silt Pond. At the western end of the new workings a Green Woodpecker Picus viridis was present, whilst a Great Spotted Woodpecker Dendrocopos major was along the Northern Hedge. A flock of Fieldfare Turdus pilaris were in the North Field. Four Red Kite Milvus milvus were over the ridge to the east, with several Buzzard Buteo buteo and a Marsh Harrier Circus aeruginosus also present. Finally two adult Mediterranean Gull Larus melanocephalus were on Village Lake.
