A late morning to early afternoon visit with light cloud and a light southerly breeze. Temperature around 11 degrees C.
A couple of new species found today (NEW), Beetle Paradromius linearis and True Bug Stenocranus minutus. A few firsts for the year (NFY) included Apion frumentarium, Cyphon laevipennis, Vespula vulgaris Common Wasp and Botaurus stellaris Bittern. The latter was a reserve tick and firstly showed in the north-west reedbed on Main Lake. If briefly showed well in the open away from the reeds, before heading across the lake to the south-east reedbed. Other highlights included a Vespa crabro Hornet which allowed me to take several photos, never found on settled long enough before to photograph. A true sight and sound of the Autumn involved three skeins of Anser brachyrhynchus Pink-footed Goose heading south during the morning.
