North Cave Wetlands – 14/02/2020

A bright morning, eventually clouding over by mid-day. A moderate southerly breeze blowing with temperature around seven degrees C.

A good visit around the reserve this morning, with some nice photographic opportunities. Two Treecreepers showed well along the eastern path, with a couple of Redwing adding to the activity here. Plenty of Lapwing on Island Lake, looking stunning in the low morning sun. Twelve Redshank and eleven Curlew were also present, along with a couple of Oystercatcher, several pairs now around the reserve. A Stonechat was on Snipe Field. A Pink-footed Goose was on the back at the rear of Reedbed Lake amongst the Greylag Geese. A single Little Egret was in the dyke bisecting the north fields. A pair of Bullfinch showed well at the south side of Carp Lake. Some of the Wildfowl were showing close to the hide, making the most of the calmer conditions sheltered from the southerly wind. A Kingfisher was also showing well this morning. Finally at the viewing platform the Green Woodpeckers showed well, along with three Lesser Redpoll present in the Alders to the right of the platform.
