Market Weighton Moths – 21/09/13

Finally my subconscious thoughts of getting a moth trap, first mentioned in my Tophill Low post on 15th June, have turned in to reality. My father has kindly donated a trap, so I’ve now got no excuse not to start ‘mothing’ at home. Starting later in the season should ensure a gentle introduction to identifying the hundreds of species that will eventually find their way into the trap. It’s not pretty, but functional, and has already attracted just short of 200 species in my father’s garden this year alone, so it has a proven pedigree.

Below are listed the first three catches with all species illustrated. Figures in square brackets will identify new species to the garden for that night. As always, please feel free to comment and correct as needed.
