North Cave Wetlands – 22/10/2014

Paid a brief visit on a cold morning with the temperature only just reaching double figures. Insects were a bit thin on the ground though several Common Darters Sympetrum striolatum started to appear as the sun warmed the air in sheltered areas. A single Red Admiral Vanessa atalanta was also found on the hedgerow along Dryham Lane. Bird-wise the only notable species was the Green Woodpecker Picus viridis which flew past South Hide on the Main Lake.
