Ellington Banks MoD Training Area

Habitat

A military training ground, where the historical use of explosives has created some productive pools around the site.  Directly over the magnesian limestone belt, the vegetation comprises open, calcareous grassland, fringed with broadleaved and coniferous woodland.  The core site in the Harrogate/Ripon area for Broad-bodied Chaser.

Access

From the Ripon to Kirkby Malzeard road (Kirkby Road, NW out of Ripon), entrance at SE281738. The site is locked at all times and there is no public access. Anyone wishing to visit must contact Major P. Ennis: telephone 01765 632280 or Major A. Crease: telephone 01748 875504 to arrange a suitable date/time. The MoD request that any visitors subsequently submit a list of observations for inclusion on the MoD species database.
